Griffins Send Yates to Walleye
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday assigned center Trevor Yates to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
Yates, 23, has played in a pair of games with the Griffins during his first full season as a professional and totaled four penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound center made his pro debut with Grand Rapids at the end of the 2017-18 campaign, skating in two contests and picking up his first pro point on an assist.
In three appearances with the Western Conference-leading Walleye this season, Yates shows one assist.
Prior to turning pro, Yates was a four-year player at Cornell University, producing 65 points (32-33—65), 30 PIM and a plus-20 rating in 120 games from 2014-18. During his senior season, he notched career highs in points (26), goals (13) and assists (13), helping the Big Red capture the Cleary Cup as the ECAC’s regular season champion and earn a second consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament.
With points in six of their last seven games, the Griffins will host the Ontario Reign for the first-time ever on Friday at 7 p.m.
