TWO FOR TANGO
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday signed forward Eric Tangradi to a two-year contract extension.
Originally signed to a one-year contract by Detroit last July, Tangradi is among the Griffins’ leaders this season and has established new career highs for goals (24), assists (25) and points (49). He ranks second on the team in both points and goals, fourth in assists, third in plus/minus (+21), second in power play goals (six) and first in game-winning goals (five). Tangradi is also tied for 16th in the AHL in point production (24-25—49).
The 6-foot-4, 233-pound Tangradi set a career high and matched a franchise record for most points in a home game with his five-point (2-3—5) outburst on March 11 during a 7-2 win against Manitoba. He also registered his fourth career hat trick in a 4-1 victory over Lake Erie on Dec. 5.
Tangradi became the 153rd Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL and the 899th player to wear a Red Wings sweater when he debuted with the Wings during Detroit’s 4-2 victory at the New York Islanders on Jan. 25. He did not record a point in 6:55 of ice time.
Originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Tangradi has notched a total of five goals and 10 assists in 144 career NHL games between the Pittsburgh Penguins (2009-13), Winnipeg Jets (2012-14), Montreal Canadiens (2014-15) and Red Wings (2015-16).
Tangradi, 27, has spent the majority of his AHL career with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (2009-13) while also playing the 2014-15 campaign with the Hamilton Bulldogs. In all, the left wing has accumulated 201 points (98-103—201) in 286 AHL games since 2009 and was named to the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic.
The Griffins will conclude a season-high five-game roadtrip on Tuesday against San Antonio at 8 p.m. EDT.
