RENOUF REJOINS GRIFFINS

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday assigned defenseman Dan Renouf to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Renouf became the 162nd Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL when he debuted with the Red Wings last night. He tallied one shot in 13:35 of ice time as Detroit beat Carolina 4-3 in overtime.

Playing in his first full professional season, Renouf, 22, ranks fourth among Griffins defenseman in scoring with 15 points (3-12—15) and leads all skaters with 59 penalty minutes in 58 games. His plus-15 rating ties for third on the team.

Signed as a free agent by Detroit to a two-year contract in March 2016, the 6-foot-3, 205-pound blueliner has totaled 16 points (3-13—16) and 64 PIM in 64 career AHL contests since joining the Griffins at the end of last season.

A native of Ajax, Ontario, Renouf played three seasons at Maine University (H-East) before turning professional. In 111 games with the Black Bears from 2013-16, he tallied 38 points (10-28—38) and 72 PIM. As a junior, he led Maine’s defensemen in goals (6), assists (9) and points (15). Renouf was a Maine Scholar-Athlete Award winner after the 2014-15 season and was selected to the Hockey East All-Academic Team during his first year on campus.

The Central Division-leading and playoff-bound Griffins host Milwaukee on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
