RED WINGS RECALL JURCO
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings have recalled forward Tomas Jurco from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
In his two-game conditioning stint in Grand Rapids, Jurco contributed two points (1-1—2), an even rating and six penalty minutes. He scored the Griffins’ lone goal last Wednesday at Milwaukee and assisted on Kyle Criscuolo’s game-tying marker in the third period last Friday against Cleveland.
Including his five games with Grand Rapids in 2015-16 for conditioning – which saw him garner AHL Player of the Week honors on Nov. 23, 2015 – Jurco has 11 points (6-5—11) in his last seven AHL games.
The 6-foot-2, 188-pound winger has spent the last three seasons as a member of the Red Wings, compiling 39 points (15-24—39), a plus-four rating and 44 penalty minutes in 143 regular season games. Jurco has made a total of 10 playoff appearances as a Red Wing and recorded two points (1-1—2). The 23-year-old has yet to play in the NHL this year.
In his fifth professional season, Jurco began his pro career in Grand Rapids in 2012-13 and helped the Griffins capture the 2013 Calder Cup by contributing 28 points (14-14—28) in 74 regular season games and 14 points (8-6—14) in 24 postseason contests. Detroit’s first choice, 35th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Jurco has appeared in 113 career games over parts of four seasons in Grand Rapids and has banked 71 points (33-38—71), a plus-20 rating and 46 PIM.
A native of Kosice, Slovakia, Jurco has represented his home country in international play at the 2015 World Championships, the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2012 and 2011 World Junior Championships.
The Griffins are 7-3 in the month of November and currently place second in the Central Division. Grand Rapids hosts defending Calder Cup champion Cleveland on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
