RED WINGS ASSIGN KINDL TO GRIFFINS

Jan 11, 2016

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday assigned defenseman Jakub Kindl to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Kindl, 28, has appeared in 23 games with the Red Wings this season and accumulated five points (2-3—5), 10 penalty minutes and a plus-one rating.

In all, the Sumperk, Czech Republic, native has been a part of seven seasons in Detroit, playing in 271 games and totaling 67 points (16-51—67) and 145 PIM. Kindl has also appeared in 19 Stanley Cup playoff games with the Red Wings (2013 through 2015), registering five points (1-4—5) and 12 PIM.

Kindl amassed 239 career games with the Griffins (2005-11; 14-15), notching 90 points (14-76—90) during that span and earning a starting nod in the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic. Most recently, Kindl made a two-game appearance in Grand Rapids last season on a conditioning assignment.

Detroit’s first choice (19th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Kindl is the second-highest Wings draft pick to ever play for the Griffins behind only Dylan Larkin (15th overall in 2014). This will mark the eighth different season that Kindl has made an appearance as a Griffin, ranking second all time in franchise history. Travis Richards (1996-06) holds the record with 10 seasons of service with Grand Rapids.

Kindl also represented the Czech Republic at the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships and made his men’s national team debut at the 2014 World Championship in Minsk, Belarus, where he netted three points (1-2—3) in 10 games.

Winners in 19 of their last 22, the Griffins will travel to Charlotte on Tuesday to take on the Checkers at 7 p.m.
