MANTHA TO MOTOWN

Mar 14, 2016

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Monday recalled forward Anthony Mantha from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Detroit’s first choice (20th overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Mantha has played in 56 games for the Griffins this season, ranking third on the team in points (45), third in goals (21) and tied for fourth in assists (24) while also posting a plus-18 rating and 30 penalty minutes. Mantha, 21, recorded his first career hat trick and added an assist for a four-point night in a 4-1 victory against Milwaukee on Feb. 17. He is currently on a three-game goal streak, registering six points (3-3—6) during that stretch.

Should he make his Red Wings debut, Mantha will become the 154th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL.

In his second season as a professional, the Longueuil, Quebec, native has played in 118 AHL games, all with Grand Rapids. In the 2014-15 campaign, Mantha finished ninth among Griffins scorers with 33 points (15-18—33) and added two goals and two assists (2-2—4) in 16 games during the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs.

Prior to turning professional, Mantha played for Val d’Or (QMJHL) from 2010-14, and tallied 260 points (129-131) in 189 games. In 2013-14, he was named the league’s Most Valuable Player as he paced the league in goals (57) and points (120).

The Red Wings play at Philadelphia on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on FSN Detroit and NBC Sports Network.

The Griffins have won 11 straight games and will travel to Texas to play the Stars on Wednesday night at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
