LUCKY NUMBER 13
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Thanks to Pittsburgh's 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings in Game 7 at Joe Louis Arena on Friday, Penguins defenseman Mark Eaton will become the 13th former member of the Grand Rapids Griffins to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup.
Eaton, who registered six points (3-3—6) in 29 games with the Griffins during the 2004-05 season, played in each of the Penguins’ 24 playoff games, notching four goals, seven assists and a plus-four rating.
This marks the fourth time in five seasons that the name of at least one Griffins alum will be engraved on the Stanley Cup. Detroit’s Valtteri Filppula, Darren Helm, Jiri Hudler, Tomas Kopecky, Niklas Kronwall, Brett Lebda, Darren McCarty, Derek Meech and Chris Osgood were added to the cup last June, Kevyn Adams won it with Carolina in 2006, and both Dmitry Afanasenkov and Darren Rumble captured the chalice with Tampa Bay in 2004.
