"Watching players graduate from the Red Wings system is like watching clowns exiting a car. They just keep coming and coming."
- StlToday.com, June 1

Before we roll the highlight reel, a few notes of interest from the Stanley Cup Finals:

  • All four members of the 2008-09 Griffins who played in the Stanley Cup Finals recorded points (Justin Abdelkader two goals, Jonathan Ericsson goal and assist, Darren Helm goal and assist, Ville Leino two assists);
  • Abdelkader became the first player in NHL history to score goals in Games 1 and 2 of a Stanley Cup Final having never previously scored a goal in the NHL. In addition, he and current Griffins assistant coach Jim Paek (1991 Pittsburgh) are the last two players to score their first NHL goal in the Stanley Cup Finals;
  • In 54 career regular season games in the NHL, Abdelkader, Ericsson and Helm have combined for six points (2-4--6).

    - Ericsson: 27 GP, 2-3--5
    - Helm: 23 GP: 0-1--1
    - Abdelkader: 4 GP, 0-0--0

    In 73 career games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the three have combined for 20 points (12-8--20).

    - Helm: 41 GP, 6-3--9
    - Ericsson: 22 GP, 4-4--8
    - Abdelkader: 10 GP, 2-1--3
  • The "Fantastic Four" of Abdelkader, Ericsson, Helm and Leino became the darlings of the hockey media, with profiles in the Grand Rapids Press and major national newspapers such as the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.
