JURCO ASSIGNED FOR CONDITIONING

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday assigned forward Tomas Jurco to the Grand Rapids Griffins for conditioning.

Jurco, 23, has yet to play this year. The 6-foot-2, 188-pound winger has spent the last three seasons as a member of the Red Wings, compiling 39 points (15-24—39), a plus-four rating and 44 penalty minutes in 143 regular season games. Jurco has made a total of 10 playoff appearances as a Red Wing and recorded two points (1-1—2).

Jurco last played with the Griffins during the 2015-16 season while on a conditioning stint and compiled nine points (5-4—9) over a five-game stretch from Nov. 18-27, 2015. He was named the AHL’s Player of the Week on Nov. 23 after he totaled seven points (3-4—7), including a hat trick, during a three-game week.

Entering his fifth professional season, Jurco began his pro career in Grand Rapids in 2012-13 and helped the Griffins capture the 2013 Calder Cup by contributing 28 points (14-14—28) in 74 regular season games and 14 points (8-6—14) in 24 postseason contests. Detroit’s first choice, 35th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Jurco has appeared in 111 career games over parts of three seasons in Grand Rapids and has banked 69 points (32-37—69), a plus-20 rating and 40 PIM.

A native of Kosice, Slovakia, Jurco has represented his home country in international play at the 2015 World Championships, the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2012 and 2011 World Junior Championships.

The Griffins are 5-2 in the month of November and currently place second in the Central Division. Grand Rapids travels to division-leading Milwaukee on Wednesday at 8 p.m. EST.
