GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday re-signed forward Alden Hirschfeld to a one-year contract and also signed forward Dominic Zombo and defenseman Derek Docken to one-year contracts.

Hirschfeld, 27, spent a majority of the 2014-15 season with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, where he ranked sixth on the team in scoring with 44 points (11-33—44) in 58 games, along with 21 penalty minutes and a plus-15 rating. The 6-foot-3, 203-pound center suited up for six games with the Griffins during the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs and scored the series-clinching goal against the Toronto Marlies on May 3 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

Zombo, 24, recently finished his senior year at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and despite missing 10 games due to injury, he potted five goals and nine assists in 29 contests. The Ballwin, Mo., native is the son of former Detroit defenseman Rick Zombo, who recorded 92 points (14-78—92) in 353 games with the Red Wings from 1984-92. In all, the elder Zombo put up 154 points (24-130—154) and 728 PIM in 652 career NHL games between Detroit, the St. Louis Blues and the Boston Bruins.

Docken, 25, recently concluded his fourth season with the University of Alaska-Anchorage, notching a goal and three assists in 34 games.
