Griffins Sign Gregor MacLeod to One-Year Contract
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday signed left wing Gregor MacLeod (mah-CLOUD) to a one-year contract for the 2019-20 season.
MacLeod,
20, has spent the last three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey
League with the Charlottetown Islanders (2016-18), Quebec Remparts
(2017-18) and Drummondville Voltigeurs (2018-19), tallying 160 points
(60-100—160), a plus-63 rating and 113 penalty minutes in 169 games.
During
this season with Drummondville, the 6-foot, 182-pound winger posted
career highs with 84 points, 35 goals, 49 assists, 43 PIM, a plus-36
rating and 60 games played, and ranked as one of the league’s leaders in
points (12th), goals (T17th) and assists (T10th). Teammates with center
Joe Veleno, the 30th overall selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by
Detroit, MacLeod placed third on Drummondville in points and goals and
tied for third in assists, helping the Voltigeurs win the Central
Division and finish with 107 points – their best result in 10 years. He
currently shows one goal in two games as Drummondville leads the
Gatineau Olympiques 2-0 in the first round of the President Cup
Playoffs.
A native of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, MacLeod appeared
in 17 QMJHL postseason games entering this season between Charlottetown
(2017) and Quebec (2018), recording three points (1-2—3) and 10 PIM.
MacLeod participated in the Ottawa Senators’ training camp last fall.
The Griffins conclude their season-high six-game road trip tonight against the Iowa Wild at 8 p.m. EDT.
