GRIFFINS SEND HEETER TO WALLEYE
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday assigned goaltender Cal Heeter to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
Heeter, 28, has won 10 of 12 games in Grand Rapids this season, including his last three. If he met the minutes requirement, the 6-foot-4 netminder would rank among the AHL’s leaders with a 2.07 goals against average (3rd) and a 0.933 save percentage (1st).
Reeling off eight consecutive victories to begin the 2016-17 campaign with the Walleye, Heeter is 11-1-0 in 12 games in Toledo while totaling a 3.01 GAA and a 0.897 save percentage.
The former Ohio State Buckeye has played in 89 career AHL games since 2012-13, including 76 with Adirondack, and posted a 38-43-6 record to go along with a 2.68 GAA and five shutouts. The fifth-year pro has logged one game in the NHL, debuting with the Philadelphia Flyers on April 13, 2014.
A native of St. Louis, Heeter is in his first season back in North America after spending the latter half of the 2014-15 season with Zagreb Medvescak (KHL) and then splitting the 2015-16 campaign between the KHL and Hamburg (DEL). In 28 games in the KHL, Heeter showed a 9-11-4 record and a 2.76 GAA. Closing last season with Hamburg, Heeter was 11-8 with a 3.00 GAA and a 0.900 save percentage.
The Central Division-leading Griffins will host second-place Chicago on Friday night at 7 p.m.
