GRIFFINS OPEN CAMP IN DETROIT ON MONDAY
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins will begin their training camp on Monday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit in further preparation for the 2016-17 season.
Twenty-three players who skated for the Griffins during the 2015-16 campaign as well as 13 players who could make their Grand Rapids debuts this season all remain in camp with the Detroit Red Wings as of today, although several of them are expected to be assigned to the Griffins this weekend. They will be joined in camp by Grand Rapids-contracted forwards Jack Barre and Carter Sandlak along with a number of ECHL invitees and Toledo Walleye players, including former Griffins defenseman Scott Czarnowczan and forward A.J. Jenks.
The schedule of practices is as follows (subject to change):
Monday, Oct. 3: 11 a.m.-Noon at Joe Louis Arena;
Tuesday, Oct. 4: 1-2 p.m. at Joe Louis Arena;
Wednesday, Oct. 5: 9-10 a.m. at Joe Louis Arena;
Thursday, Oct. 6: 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Joe Louis Arena;
Friday, Oct. 7: 10:15-11 a.m. at Griff’s IceHouse.
Grand Rapids will conclude camp with its lone preseason contest on Friday, Oct. 7, when the Griffins take on the Chicago Wolves at 8 p.m. EDT at the West Meadows Ice Arena in Rolling Meadows, Ill. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.
The Griffins will open the 2016-17 campaign at home against the Chicago Wolves on Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Chicago and battling the Wolves on Oct. 15.
