CAITO RECALLED FROM TOLEDO
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday recalled defenseman Matt Caito from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
Caito, 23, has skated in 13 games with the Walleye and recorded seven points (5-2—7), a plus-six rating and 12 penalty minutes while helping Toledo post a league-best 0.824 points percentage (14-3). The 5-foot-11, 190-pound blueliner registered his first pro hat trick on Nov. 25 against Fort Wayne and his five goals tie for fourth among ECHL defensemen.
Caito has played in one game with the Griffins this season, appearing in their 4-3 win at Iowa on Oct. 18.
A native of Coto de Caza, Calif., Caito debuted professionally with the Walleye at the end of the 2015-16 season, banking five points (2-3—5) in eight regular season games and chipping in two points (1-1—2) in six Kelly Cup Playoff games.
Caito joined the Walleye after concluding a four-year collegiate career at Miami University. He logged 151 career games with the RedHawks from 2012-16, totaled 72 points (16-56—72) and led the team’s defensemen in scoring during his first three years on campus.
The Griffins place second in the Central Division and will host the Iowa Wild on Friday night at 7 p.m.
