BONIS AND ZENGERLE JOIN GRIFFINS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday signed forwards Kyle Bonis and Mark Zengerle to one-year contracts.
A native of Lindsay, Ontario, Bonis picked up 45 points (25-20—45) in 65 games with the ECHL’s Florida Everblades during the 2013-14 season and ranked among team leaders in scoring (4th), goals (2nd) and assists (8th). The 5-foot-11, 175-pound left wing went scoreless in three AHL appearances with the Charlotte Checkers last season and tallied two points (1-1—2) in six games with the Norfolk Admirals late in 2012-13.
Prior to turning pro, the 25-year-old Bonis spent four seasons with Ferris State University from 2009-13, where he collected 77 points (47-30—77) in 136 career CCHA games.
Zengerle, 25, amassed 162 points (37-125—162) in 151 games with the University of Wisconsin Badgers from 2010-14. Last season, the 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward paced the Badgers with 44 points (10-34—44), leading the team in both scoring and assists. Zengerle was named the Big Ten tournament’s Most Outstanding Player in March, after scoring the game-winning overtime goal to give Wisconsin the inaugural Big Ten tournament title.
Group tickets for eight regular season home dates at Van Andel Arena, including the Oct. 10 season opener, are now on sale along with 2014-15 season ticket packages.
