Marcus Kinney begins his 12th season as strength and conditioning coordinator for Griffins, having helped the team earn the 2017 Calder Cup along with playoff appearances in eight of his 10 full seasons of his tenure.
A U.S. Army veteran, Kinney received a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine and athletic training from Wilmington College in 1996 and obtained his master’s degree in athletic coaching education from West Virginia University in 1997. Kinney also completed two tours of duty at WVU.
Kinney, who has been a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association for more than 26 years, has experience in strength and conditioning coaching with Wilmington College (1993-96), West Viriginia University (1996-98), the U.S. Naval Academy (1998-2000), Kansas State University (2000-2004), WVU (2004-2007), and the University of Tulsa (2007-2008). He also serves as Barwis Methods’ Grand Rapids director of operations and head strength coach.
Kinney and his wife, Dawn, have six children: Tyler, Cameron, Isaiah, Brennan, Elijah and Lindsey, and one granddaughter, Kennedy Grace.
