GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday recalled defenseman Xavier Ouellet from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

A native of Bayonne, France, Ouellet is tied for first in scoring among Griffins defensemen with five points (1-4—5) in 13 games this season. The 6-foot, 200-pound blueliner also ties for first on the team in shots with 44. In his rookie campaign last season, Ouellet tallied 17 points (4-13—17) and 22 penalty minutes in 70 games with Grand Rapids.

Ouellet also suited up in four regular season contests with Detroit during the 2013-14 season, registering four shots and two PIM. He made his NHL debut with the Wings on Oct. 21 versus the San Jose Sharks and went on to appear in his first NHL playoff game with the team on April 26 versus the Boston Bruins. The 21-year-old was Detroit’s second choice (48th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The Red Wings will continue their three-game road trip with a tilt against the Winnipeg Jets tomorrow at 8 p.m. EST, when Ouellet will be available to play.

The Griffins will spar in a home-and-home against the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Quicken Loans Arena and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Van Andel Arena.
