Apr 23, 2014

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday recalled defenseman Xavier Ouellet from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Ouellet, 20, skated in 70 regular season games with Grand Rapids during the 2013-14 campaign, netting 17 points (4-13—17), a plus-three rating and 22 penalty minutes. The 6-foot, 200-pound blueliner also suited up in four regular season games with Detroit, registering four shots and two PIM. Detroit’s second choice (48th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Ouellet made his NHL debut with the Wings on Oct. 21 versus the San Jose Sharks.

Prior to joining the Griffins, the rookie defenseman was a member of the QMJHL’s Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, tallying 101 points (31-70—101) from 2011-13. Ouellet also represented Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championship in Ufa, Russia, posting three points (1-2—3) in six games.

The Wings will host the Boston Bruins at Joe Louis Arena for Game 4 of their best-of-seven series on Thursday at 8 p.m., when Ouellet will be available to play.

The Griffins will begin defense of their 2013 Calder Cup championship by playing the Abbotsford Heat in the best-of-five Western Conference Quarterfinals. Grand Rapids will visit the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre on Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. before returning to Van Andel Arena on Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. for the first of as many as three straight home games.

Fans can now purchase Griffins playoff tickets for Games 3-5 (Home Games A-C) for $33, $27, $23, $19, $17 and $15 (additional $2 per ticket on day of game), reflecting a league-wide increase of $1 over regular season prices. Playoff tickets may be purchased in person at The Zone at Van Andel Arena and all Star Tickets locations, by phone at (800) 585-3737, or through griffinshockey.com/buytickets.
