GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday assigned goaltender Petr Mrazek and defenseman Xavier Ouellet to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

A native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, Mrazek ranked second among AHL goaltenders with a 2.10 goals against average during the 2013-14 regular season, while owning a 22-9-1 record through 32 games. The 22-year-old posted a 4-1 shootout record, three shutouts and a 0.924 save percentage, earning him a spot on the AHL’s Second All-Star Team. Detroit’s fifth choice (141st overall) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Mrazek was re-signed by Detroit on July 1 to a one-year contract extension for the 2015-16 season. Last season, Mrazek made nine regular season appearances with Detroit and produced a 2-4-0 record, a 1.74 GAA and two shutouts.

Ouellet, a native of Bayonne, France, tallied 17 points (4-13—17) and 22 penalty minutes in 70 games with the Griffins last season. The 6-foot, 200-pound blueliner also suited up in four regular season contests with Detroit, registering four shots and two PIM. Ouellet made his NHL debut with the Wings on Oct. 21 versus the San Jose Sharks and went on to appear in his first NHL playoff game with Detroit on April 26 versus the Boston Bruins. The 21-year-old was Detroit’s second choice (48th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Grand Rapids will commence the AHL’s regular season with its home opener against the Lake Erie Monsters this Friday at 7 p.m. at Van Andel Arena, kicking off its 19th campaign overall, 14th as a member of the American Hockey League and 13th as the primary affiliate of the Red Wings.
