GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Forty-four players with Grand Rapids Griffins playing experience will be among the 72 Detroit Red Wings stars, prospects and invitees who will take to the ice this Friday, Sept. 18 for the start of Red Wings training camp at Centre ICE Arena in Traverse City, Mich.
Twenty-eight players who skated for the Griffins during the 2014-15 season are slated to participate, including goaltenders Jared Coreau, Tom McCollum and Petr Mrazek; defensemen Scott Czarnowczan, Nick Jensen, Jakub Kindl, Brian Lashoff, Alexey Marchenko, Jared Nightingale, Xavier Ouellet, Nathan Paetsch and Ryan Sproul; and forwards Andreas Athanasiou, Louis-Marc Aubry, Tyler Bertuzzi, Mitch Callahan, Colin Campbell, Landon Ferraro, Martin Frk, Jeff Hoggan, Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha, Andy Miele, Zach Nastasiuk, Tomas Nosek, Teemu Pulkkinen, Marek Tvrdon and Mark Zengerle. Triston Grant, who will make his return to the Griffins this season, will have limited participation in the camp due to injury.
Also present at camp will be 15 other former Griffins – Justin Abdelkader, Joakim Andersson, Danny DeKeyser, Jonathan Ericsson, Luke Glendening, Darren Helm, Jimmy Howard, Tomas Jurco, Niklas Kronwall, Richard Nedomlel, Gustav Nyquist, Kyle Quincey, Riley Sheahan, Brendan Smith and Tomas Tatar – and several players who could make their Grand Rapids debuts this season, including goaltender Jake Paterson, forward Eric Tangradi and defenseman Robbie Russo.
Griffins head coach Todd Nelson and assistant coaches Bruce Ramsay, Ben Simon and Mike Knuble will assist the Red Wings’ coaching staff, headed by former Grand Rapids bench boss Jeff Blashill, during the camp, which concludes next Monday, Sept. 21.
The camp schedule for Friday through Sunday will see three player groups hitting the ice for practice at 9:30 a.m., 10:35 a.m. and 12:40 p.m., with two of those groups scrimmaging from 11:30-12:35 p.m. Monday will see a Red vs. White Game at noon, with the players not participating in the game practicing at 10 a.m.
Upon breaking camp, the Red Wings will kick off their eight-game preseason schedule with a road tilt against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 8:30 p.m., before returning to Joe Louis Arena for a rematch the following night at 7:30 p.m.

The Griffins will begin their training camp in Grand Rapids on Monday, Sept. 28, with practice times and locations yet to be announced, before playing a pair of neutral-site preseason games against the Lake Erie Monsters. Grand Rapids will first battle the Monsters on Friday, Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bowling Green State University Ice Arena, home to the WCHA’s BGSU Falcons, before squaring off again on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7:05 p.m. at the Windsor Family Credit Union Centre in Windsor, Ontario, where the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires play.
The Griffins will drop the puck on their regular season with an Oct. 9-10 road trip to Bakersfield and San Diego, marking their 20th campaign overall, 15th as members of the American Hockey League and 14th as the primary affiliate of the Red Wings. The following weekend, Grand Rapids will kick off the home portion of its schedule with back-to-back games against the San Antonio Rampage on Oct. 16-17 at 7 p.m. at Van Andel Arena.
