GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. The Detroit Red Wings on Monday recalled center Valtteri Filppula from the Grand Rapids Griffins and assigned left wing Donald MacLean to the American Hockey League club.
Named the AHLs most valuable player last Friday, MacLean played in three games during his Detroit debut, scoring a goal and adding an assist. He appeared in 76 games with the Griffins this season, setting franchise records with a league-high 56 goals, five hat tricks and 21 power play goals. MacLeans 88 points ranked seventh in the league and fourth all time on the Griffins.
Filppula will be available to log his fourth game as a Red Wing tonight when Detroit hosts Dallas at 7 (OLN). Hes contributed one assist for the parent club this season, along with 70 points (20-5070) in 74 games with Grand Rapids. Filppulas 50 assists (T12th) and plus-23 rating (T9th) placed among the AHLs leaders, and he ended the regular season on a seven-game assist streak that tied the team record.
