TOOTOO ASSIGNED TO GRAND RAPIDS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday assigned right wing Jordin Tootoo to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Tootoo, 31, has skated in 539 regular season games over 10 NHL seasons, posting 134 points (49-85—134) and 808 penalty minutes. Originally the Nashville Predators’ sixth selection (98th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Tootoo signed as a free agent with the Wings on July 1, 2012, and has since produced nine points (3-6—9) and 83 PIM in 53 games for the team, including one assist in 11 appearances this season.
The Churchill, Manitoba, native has also appeared in 38 contests with Grand Rapids, registering 14 points (4-10—14) and 74 penalty minutes. Prior to joining the Griffins, Tootoo last played in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals during the 2005-06 season, when he accumulated 49 points (23-26—49) and 399 PIM in 100 games.
The Griffins will play consecutive road games against the Iowa Wild on Friday (8:05 p.m. EDT) and Saturday (2:05 p.m. EDT) before traveling to Allstate Arena for a match against the Chicago Wolves on Sunday (4 p.m. EDT).
