GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Sunday recalled goaltender Tom McCollum from the Grand Rapids Griffins. In addition, the Griffins assigned forward Tyler Barnes to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye and signed defenseman Joel Chouinard to a professional tryout.

McCollum, 25, has played in 21 games for Grand Rapids this season, producing a 10-8-3 record, a 2.33 goals against average and a 0.911 save percentage. The Cambria, N.Y., native is currently on a five-game winning streak with Grand Rapids, dating back to Dec. 27. Detroit’s first choice (30th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, McCollum has appeared in 180 career games with the Griffins since 2009-10 and has compiled a 79-75-13 record and a 2.87 GAA. In his 2013-14 campaign, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound netminder ranked fourth among AHL goaltenders with a 2.30 GAA, and he set career bests in games played (46), wins (24) and save percentage (0.922).

A native of Burnsville, Minn., Barnes made his Griffins debut in Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime victory over the Charlotte Checkers at Van Andel Arena. The 24-year-old ranks second on the Walleye in scoring with 36 points (13-23—36) in 31 games. Barnes was recently named the ECHL Rookie of the Month for December after accumulating 17 points (7-10—17) and a plus-13 rating, while helping the Walleye to a 9-2-2 record during the month. As a result of his December accolades, Barnes currently leads all ECHL rookies in scoring and will take part in the 2015 ECHL All-Star Classic.

A native of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Chouinard has picked up 20 points (5-15—20) and a plus-16 rating in 31 games with Toledo this season, and he ranks first among team defensemen in scoring. In addition to Barnes, the 24-year old Chouinard also made his Griffins debut in Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime win against Charlotte, and he was released from his original professional tryout on Saturday. Since turning pro during the 2010-11 season, the 6-foot-1, 187-pound blueliner has accumulated 10 goals and 26 assists in 167 AHL games between the Lake Erie Monsters (2010-13), Hamilton Bulldogs (2013-14) and Griffins (2014-15).

The Red Wings will square off against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at First Niagara Center, when McCollum will be available to play.
