SPROUL ASSIGNED
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday assigned defenseman Ryan Sproul to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Detroit also recalled forward Matt Lorito from the Griffins and placed him on non-roster injured reserve.
Sproul scored seven points (1-6—7) with the Red Wings last season while being limited to 27 games due to injury. The 6-foot-4, 211-pound blueliner skated in 215 regular season games with the Griffins from 2012-16, totaling 91 points (28-63—91) and 99 penalty minutes.
Grand Rapids’ roster now stands at 24 players as practice continues at Van Andel Arena this week. The Griffins will raise their 2017 Calder Cup championship banner and begin the defense of their title on Friday at Van Andel Arena against Manitoba when the puck drops on the 2017-18 season with Opening Night presented by Huntington Bank.
