SMITH RETURNS TO GRAND RAPIDS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Sunday assigned defenseman Brendan Smith to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Smith leads all Griffins defensemen with 32 points (10-22—32) in 47 games. The Mimico, Ontario, native has also posted a plus-seven rating and 74 penalty minutes. Smith has missed the Griffins’ last 12 games after being recalled by Detroit on Feb. 27. In 14 games with the Red Wings this season, the 23-year-old defenseman has seven points (1-6—7), a plus-three rating and 13 penalty minutes.
After dropping a 5-2 decision to Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City last night, the Griffins will battle the Barons again today at 5 p.m. EDT in Oklahoma City.
