SMITH AND RAEDEKE TRADE PLACES
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Saturday assigned defenseman Brendan Smith to the Grand Rapids Griffins and recalled center Brent Raedeke from the American Hockey League club.
Smith, 22, joins the Griffins after an excellent AHL rookie season that saw him record 32 points (12-20—32) in 63 games. He became the first rookie defenseman in franchise history to be selected to the AHL All-Star Game and was also named to the AHL All-Rookie Team.
Smith will practice with the Griffins this week as they prepare to kick off their 16th season on Saturday at Rockford at 8:05 p.m.
Raedeke, 21, returns to Detroit after being assigned to Grand Rapids on Monday. He joins the Red Wings as they wrap up their pre-season this weekend with a game tonight at Toronto at 7 p.m. before facing off against Pittsburgh Sunday at 5 p.m. at Joe Louis Arena.
