ROUND UP AT THE RINK

Nov 21, 2012

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins are asking fans to participate in the “Round Up at the Rink” fundraiser when visiting the concession stands for Friday’s home game versus the Chicago Wolves and Sunday’s contest versus the Milwaukee Admirals to benefit Make-A-Wish Michigan.

Fans purchasing concession items at either home game this weekend will be asked if they will round up their total purchase to the nearest dollar. All the money donated will be given to Make-A-Wish Michigan. The usual concession specials, such as $1 beers and $1 hot dogs on Friday and $1 Pepsi drinks and $1 ice cream on Sunday, will still apply.

Organized by Ryan Rabinowitz, a 14-year-old high school student and hockey player from Novi, Mich., the event is part of a statewide initiative to raise money to grant more wishes to children in need. Dozens of hockey arenas have participated or will participate in the event during November and December with the goal of raising $5,000, which can help grant an entire wish.

Currently riding an AHL-best six-game winning streak, the Griffins will play three games in three days this weekend. In addition to home games on Friday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (4 p.m.), Grand Rapids will make its second visit of the season to Peoria to battle the Rivermen on Saturday at 8:35 p.m. EST. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
