ROSTER MOVES
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned forwards Matt Lorito and Eric Tangradi to the Grand Rapids Griffins and reassigned goaltender Matej Machovsky from Grand Rapids to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye. The Griffins have also signed forward Matt Carey to a professional tryout.
Lorito enters his second season in Grand Rapids after leading the Griffins with 56 points (22-34—56) in 2016-17.
Tangradi has appeared in 126 games with the Griffins over the last two seasons and tallied 100 points (45-55—100) and 119 penalty minutes.
Carey, 25, scored an AHL career high 21 goals last season for the Hartford Wolf Pack, second most on the team, while finishing with 29 points and 82 PIM in 73 appearances.
The 6-foot-1, 202-pound winger has played in 161 career AHL contests since 2014-15 with Rockford, Iowa and Hartford, and totaled 54 points (33-21—54) and 139 PIM. He also skated in 49 games with the ECHL’s Quad City Mallards in 2015-16, tallying 47 points (25-22—47) and 46 PIM.
A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Carey scored 37 points (18-19—37) in 38 games with St. Lawrence University in 2013-14 and was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team. Following his only season at the collegiate level, Carey made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks at the end of the 2013-14 campaign, contributing one goal in two games.
The Griffins will raise their 2017 Calder Cup championship banner and begin the defense of their title tomorrow at Van Andel Arena against Manitoba when the puck drops on the 2017-18 season with Opening Night presented by Huntington Bank.
