RIDERS ON THE STORM
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday recalled right wing Mike Walsh from the ECHL’s Toledo Storm.
The 25-year-old Walsh, a native of Northville, Mich., was signed by the Griffins in September. The rookie ranks third on the Storm with 14 goals (tied) and 31 points in 54 games and recently netted his first pro hat trick, accounting for all the game’s goals in Toledo’s 3-0 win over Columbia on Feb. 17.
A Notre Dame alum who was the New York Rangers’ fourth choice (143rd overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Walsh played alongside Griffins defenseman Tom Galvin for two seasons (2002-04) in college, and he also reunites with former Toledo teammates Jamie Tardif and Logan Koopmans.
Walsh is expected to make his AHL debut tonight when the Griffins host the Peoria Rivermen at 7 p.m.
