RED WINGS RE-SIGN TOMAS KOPECKY
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings, NHL affiliate of the Grand Rapids Griffins, on Wednesday announced the signing of left wing Tomas Kopecky to his one-year qualifying offer.
Kopecky, 23, was Detroits second selection (38th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He has spent the last three seasons with the Griffins, totaling 66 points (31-3566) in 166 games.
An injury limited Kopecky to 48 games and 16 points (8-816) last season, but his greatest impact was in the shootout, as he converted five of eight opportunities to tie for fourth in the AHL with a 0.625 shootout percentage.
A former AHL Rookie of the Month (Feb. 2003), Kopecky co-owns the franchise record for points in a single period (three), and the 38 points he scored in 2002-03 still stand as the fourth-most ever for a Griffins rookie.
