RED WINGS RE-SIGN JORDAN PEARCE
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings have re-signed goaltender Jordan Pearce, one of the top performers from the Grand Rapids Griffins’ 2010-11 squad, to a two-year contract.
Pearce, 24, seized the starting goaltender’s role midway through the 2010-11 campaign and nearly led the Griffins to the playoffs, posting a record of 12-6-2 while making 20 consecutive starts down the stretch. The former Notre Dame star, who played in each of Grand Rapids’ final 26 games last season and in 33 of the last 34 contests, led the team with 20 wins (20-15-5), a 0.908 save percentage, one shutout (tied), 1,164 saves, 44 games played and 2452:26 minutes played, while placing second with a 2.89 goals against average.
A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Pearce also appeared in eight contests with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye last season, going 3-5-0 with a 4.13 GAA, a 0.883 save percentage and one shutout. In 50 games with the Griffins over the last three years, Pearce shows a 21-18-5 record with a 3.01 GAA, a 0.904 save percentage and one shutout, placing him among the team’s all-time leaders in wins (10th) and saves (1,302, 8th).
The Red Wings have now signed or re-signed five players who are expected to play for the Griffins in 2011-12, including goaltender Joey MacDonald, forward Chris Conner, and defensemen Garnet Exelby and Logan Pyett.
