RED WINGS CALL FOR NYQUIST
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday recalled left wing Gustav Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Nyquist leads the Griffins in scoring with 54 points (19-35—54) in 53 games, sitting just one point shy of the franchise record for points by a rookie. The 22-year-old forward is eighth in AHL scoring overall and sits second among league rookies.
A native of Halmstad, Sweden, Nyquist has recorded one assist, a plus-one rating and two penalty minutes in five games with the Red Wings this season after making his NHL debut on Nov. 1 versus Minnesota. He spent the previous three seasons with the University of Maine, tallying 144 points (50-94—144) in 113 games and earning consecutive Hobey Baker Award nominations as a sophomore and junior.
Grand Rapids will continue its season-high five-game road trip when it visits Houston on Saturday at 8:35 p.m. EST and Sunday at 6:05 p.m. EDT.
