PRESEASON SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday announced their 2012-13 preseason schedule, which will consist of two neutral-site games against the Lake Erie Monsters.
Grand Rapids will first battle the Monsters on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio, home of the Toledo Walleye, the ECHL affiliate of the Griffins and the Detroit Red Wings. On Sunday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m., the rivals will square off again at Yost Ice Arena on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The two contests will comprise the Griffins’ first slate of preseason games since the 2005-06 season.
The game in Toledo will be part of the “Hockey Showdown in T-Town,” a day-long event at the Huntington Center that will feature four youth hockey games starting at 11 a.m. and end with an ECHL exhibition game involving the Walleye. Tickets cost $5, with all proceeds benefitting the “Walleye Wishing Well” charitable fund, and can be purchased by visiting toledowalleye.com or by calling (419) 725-9255.
The next evening’s contest at the newly renovated Yost Arena will represent a homecoming for Griffins forward Luke Glendening, the East Grand Rapids native who in the spring concluded both his UM career and his second season as the Wolverines’ captain. Ticket information for this game will be announced at a later date.
Grand Rapids will commence its 17th regular season with a pair of home games the following week, hosting Milwaukee on Friday, Oct. 12 and Hamilton on Saturday, Oct. 13. Both games will start at 7 p.m. Fans can secure their seats now by purchasing a full-season, partial-season or group ticket package. Single-game tickets are set to go on sale on Saturday, Sept. 15.
