PESKY WOLVES
ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. – Stefan Liv stopped 25 of 26 shots in a period and a half of work on Thursday, but the Chicago Wolves rallied for a 3-2 win in the Grand Rapids Griffins' preseason opener at the West Meadows Ice Arena.
The teams traded 13 shots during a scoreless first period before Chicago's Justin Kurtz solved Liv 1:35 into the second.
After Dominic Vicari relieved Liv at the 10:35 mark, the Griffins' Andrew Martin knotted the score off a pass from Ryan Keller at 11:34. Brendan Brooks then set up Lucas Lawson on the power play at 18:01 to give Grand Rapids a 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
The Wolves scored twice in the third to pull out the win. Brian Fahey notched the equalizer at 2:33, while Jordan LaVallee scored the game-winner with 9:36 remaining. Vicari finished with 13 saves on 15 shots.
The Griffins will conclude their two-game preseason schedule tomorrow night in Milwaukee against the Admirals at 8 p.m. EDT.
