GRAND RAPIDS GRIFFINS 5 vs. Cleveland Monsters 2
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Powered by a hat trick from captain Dominik Shine, which included his 100th goal with the franchise, the Grand Rapids Griffins coasted to a 5-2 win over the Cleveland Monsters on Saturday at Van Andel Arena.
Shine’s third goal marked his 100th as a Griffin, making him the third player to hit that mark in team history (Michel Picard 158; Francis Pare 102). It was also his 11th unassisted goal, giving him sole possession of the Griffins career record. Complimenting the captain’s performance, Sheldon Dries totaled three points (1-2–3) in his 400th AHL game, and Carter Gylander made 24 saves in his season debut and extended his point streak with Grand Rapids to 10 games (9-0-1), dating back to Dec. 7, 2024. With the victory, Grand Rapids improved its point streak to six outings (5-0-0-1).

Grand Rapids quickly jumped in front at the 3:35 mark of the first period. Shai Buium recorded his second assist of the weekend when he sent a pass from the goal line to Shine on the doorstep and the captain one-timed it past Pheonix Copley’s glove for a 1-0 advantage.
The Griffins doubled their lead 1:13 into the second period with Shine’s second tally of the evening. From the goal line, Carter Bear passed the puck backwards between his legs to Dries in front of the crease, and Dries dumped it across the slot to Shine who fired it into the wide-open net.
At the 7:11 mark of the second, Grand Rapids took a 3-0 lead with a shorthanded goal when William Lagesson sent the puck to the net from the left boards and Dries cleaned up the rebound.
Cleveland finally solved Gylander with 9:45 remaining in the second, also shorthanded. Luke Tuch found the net with an unassisted wrister from above the right circle.
In the third period, Ondrej Becher extended Grand Rapids’ advantage at 6:20 on a power play. Off a pass from Jesse Kiiskinen, Becher launched a one-timer from the left circle for his sixth point in the last five games (2-4–6).
Tate Singleton recorded the Monsters’ final score of the game with 9:44 remaining, finding the right corner from the top of the left circle.
With 3:21 left in the contest, Cleveland pulled Copley for an extra attacker, and Shine tapped in an empty-net breakaway at the 16:55 mark to complete the hat trick and the 5-2 win.
