NYQUIST TO DETROIT, COETZEE TO GRAND RAPIDS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Friday recalled right wing Gustav Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins and reassigned right wing Willie Coetzee to the Griffins from the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye.
Nyquist, 23, leads the Griffins and is tied for fourth in the AHL with 45 points (17-28—45) in 47 games. The Halmstad, Sweden, native has 107 points (40-67—107) in 111 career games with Grand Rapids. Detroit’s third choice (121st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Nyquist shows seven points (1-6—7) in 19 NHL games with the Red Wings, including a Jan. 22 appearance versus Dallas. Nyquist is expected to be in the lineup tonight for Detroit’s game versus Anaheim at 7:30 p.m.
Coetzee, 22, ranks second on the Walleye with 37 points (18-19—37) in 43 games. He has not appeared in a game with the Griffins this season but shows 27 points (11-16—27) in 88 career AHL contests. A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound winger had a career-high 22 points (11-11—22) in 61 games with Grand Rapids last season.
The Griffins will host a pair of home games this weekend, welcoming the Lake Erie Monsters tonight at 7 p.m. and the Charlotte Checkers on Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
