NYQUIST RECALLED BY DETROIT
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday recalled left wing Gustav Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Nyquist, 22, leads the Griffins in scoring this season with 30 points (9-21—30) in 30 games. He ranks second among AHL rookies and is tied for 10th in overall league scoring. The Halmstad, Sweden, native was previously recalled by Detroit on Oct. 31, logging 11:07 of ice time in his NHL debut on Nov. 1 versus the Minnesota Wild.
Nyquist is expected to join the Red Wings in Chicago for tomorrow’s game against the Blackhawks at 8:30 p.m., rejoining former teammates Joakim Andersson and Chris Conner as three of the Griffins’ top five scorers in Detroit.
The Griffins will close out 2011 with a pair of home games this weekend. They will take on the Peoria Rivermen on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting the Milwaukee Admirals at 6 p.m. in the 15th annual New Years’ Eve game. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
