NYQUIST ASSIGNED TO GRAND RAPIDS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned left wing Gustav Nyquist to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
A native of Halmstad, Sweden, Nyquist tied the franchise record for most points by a rookie with his goal in the Griffins’ 5-2 win over Houston on Sunday. His next point will give him sole possession of the record, surpassing Glen Metropolit, who had 55 points (20-35—55) in 79 games in 1997-98. Nyquist is second among rookies and tied for ninth in league scoring with 55 points (20-35—55) in 54 games.
Nyquist has appeared in eight games for the Red Wings this season, recording three assists, a plus-one rating and two penalty minutes. The first-year pro racked up 144 points (50-94—144) in 113 games in three seasons at the University of Maine.
After finishing a season-high five-game road trip with consecutive victories, the Griffins will return home for a pair of home games against the Toronto Marlies at 7 p.m. on Friday and the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are available at griffinshockey.com.
