GRAND RAPIDS GRIFFINS 4 vs. Milwaukee Admirals 2
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- On a night where Dominik Shine moved to second all time in points in franchise history, the Grand Rapids Griffins took a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday at Van Andel Arena to extend their point streak to nine games (8-0-0-1).
Just two nights after taking second place for the most goals scored in team history, Shine passed Travis Richards (238) with a second-period tally to secure the second-most points as a Griffin. The captain also recorded an assist and now stands with 240 points, trailing only Michel Picard (380). In support of the win, Dylan James (1-1–2) and Carter Bear (0-2–2) each picked up two points, and Sutter Muzzatti scored in his first game back after rehabbing an injury that kept him out since early October. Between the pipes, Trey Augustine made 25 saves to extend his point streak to five games (4-0-1).
11-6-26 | Highlights | Milwaukee Admirals
Grand Rapids took an early advantage with Muzzatti’s tally at the 5:20 mark of the first period. James recorded the assist by sending a pass from the left goal line to Muzzatti in the low slot, and the Michigander one-timed it past Matt Murray’s glove for the 1-0 lead.
With about half the frame still to play, back-to-back penalties committed by the Griffins put the Admirals on the man-advantage, including 42 seconds of 5-on-3 play. However, Grand Rapids found the net with 10 seconds remaining on the second penalty. After Bear cleared the puck along the left boards, James found himself behind the defense and swept behind the net before tucking a shot through the goaltender’s five-hole for the wrap-around shorthanded goal at 11:45 to give his team a 2-0 lead heading into the second. James now finds himself with six points in the last three games (2-4–6).
Shine added a third tally to the Griffins’ total on a power play with 11:18 remaining in the second stanza. After a shot from Bear was stopped by Murray, Shine ripped the rebound into the empty net from the left circle. Over the last four games, Shine has 11 points, including two hat tricks (9-2-11).
Milwaukee finally solved Augustine at 16:10 when Cole O’Hara fired a wrister past the goalie from the top of the left circle to cut the deficit to 3-1.
With 2:44 remaining in the game, the Admirals pulled their netminder for an extra attacker, but Noah Dower Nilsson found the empty net with a shot from center ice to make it 4-1. Chase Bradley scored the final goal of the game with a shot from the left circle at 18:06, but it was too little, too late for Milwaukee in the 4-2 win for Grand Rapids.
