GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Dominik Shine became the first player in franchise history to score four goals in a regular-season game and took second place among the team’s all-time goal leaders, as he led the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 6-2 win over the Texas Stars on Wednesday at Van Andel Arena.

Shine’s second tally of the first period was enough to surpass Francis Pare (102) for the second-most goals in franchise history, and the Detroit native now stands at 105. Over the last three games, Shine has nine points, including two hat tricks (8-1–9). In support of their captain, Ondrej Becher and William Lagesson each recorded two assists, and Trey Augustine made 24 saves to extend his point streak to four games (3-0-1). The victory also increased the team’s overall point streak to eight games (7-0-0-1).

Texas recorded the first tally 3:36 into the contest when Tristan Bertucci fired the puck toward the net from the high slot and Mike Sgarbossa deflected it past Augustine.

Halfway through the frame, Jack Becker was whistled for a high-sticking double minor that resulted in a four-minute power play for the Griffins, and Shine tied the game with his first goal of the night at 10:28. After taking a pass from Becher from above the left circle, Shine attempted a cross-ice pass from the left goal line, but the puck was deflected into the net by goaltender Arno Tiefensee.

Still on the power play, Noah Dower Nilsson gave Grand Rapids the lead just 45 seconds later with the second goal on the Texas double minor. On the heels of a pass from Jacob Bryson, Dower Nilsson ripped a shot past Tiefensee’s glove from the top of the left circle for a 2-1 advantage at 11:13.

Shine found the twine once again with 5:45 remaining in the first with the help of Lagesson. After the defenseman skated the puck into the zone and dumped it back to Shine, the captain launched a shot past the goaltender from above the right circle. The goal forced the Stars to make a change in net, switching from Tiefensee to Brandon Halverson.

The Stars scored the only goal of the second period just 36 seconds into the frame. Ben Gleason registered the tally, bringing the deficit down to 3-2 with a close-range wrister from the right circle.

At the 8:10 mark of the third period, Shine brought on the shower of hats by tapping in a rebound on a shot from Lagesson to give the Griffins a two-goal lead. With 2:12 remaining, the captain completed his historic performance with a shot from the left circle off a faceoff that found its way through the goalie’s five-hole to make it 5-2.

Dylan James finished off the 6-2 win with a one-timer at the edge of the left circle with 59 seconds remaining in the game.
