NIGHTINGALE SIGNED TO PTO, NAGLE RELEASED
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday signed defenseman Jared Nightingale to a professional tryout and released goaltender Pat Nagle from his professional tryout.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Nightingale is a 10-year veteran of the AHL, having accumulated 51 points (14-37—51) and 888 penalty minutes in 413 career games between the Springfield Falcons (2005-06), Iowa Stars (2006-07), Hartford Wolf Pack (2007-11; 2014-15), Chicago Wolves (2007-08), Connecticut Whale (2011-12), Syracuse Crunch (2012-13), Rockford IceHogs (2013-14) and Norfolk Admirals (2014-15).
This season, Nightingale has notched one assist in six games with Hartford and one assist in 20 games with Norfolk. Most recently, the 32-year-old defenseman spent 13 games with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, where he tallied three points (1-2—3) and 17 PIM. A native of Jackson, Mich., Nightingale spent four seasons with Michigan State University prior to turning pro, where he picked up 23 points (2-21—23) in 156 career CCHA games.
Signed to a professional tryout by Grand Rapids on Jan. 12, Nagle earned both his first start and first victory (5-1) for the Griffins on Jan. 23 versus the Utica Comets, turning away 29 of 30 shots. It was the first AHL triumph for the Bloomfield, Mich., native after brief tours with the Syracuse Crunch (2012-13) and Rochester Americans (2014-15). In three AHL games this season, Nagle owns a 1.76 goals against average, alongside a 1-1-0 record and a 0.948 save percentage.
In 22 games with the ECHL’s Fort Wayne Komets this season, the 27-year-old Nagle owns a 2.42 GAA alongside a 0.910 save percentage and a 17-4-1 record. He has also appeared in one game with the Rochester Americans on Jan. 3, when he made 39 saves on 42 shots in a 4-0 loss to the Adirondack Flames. Before joining the professional ranks, Nagle spent four seasons at Ferris State University from 2007-11 and accumulated a 2.32 GAA and a 45-42-11 record.
The Griffins will welcome the Rochester Americans to Van Andel Arena for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
