GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Saturday reassigned goaltender Thomas McCollum from the Grand Rapids Griffins to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye and reassigned goaltender Jordan Pearce from the Walleye to the Griffins.

McCollum, 20, was Detroit’s first choice (30th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. The 2008-09 Ontario Hockey League All-Star has played 18 games with the Griffins this season, posting a 7-7-0 record with a 3.42 goals against average and an 0.877 save percentage.

McCollum is expected to start for the Walleye tonight when they visit the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:30 p.m.

Pearce, 23, backed up McCollum during the Griffins’ season-opening 3-1 win in Peoria on Oct. 3 before joining the Walleye three days later. In 18 games with Toledo, Pearce shows an 8-8-1 record with a 3.52 GAA and an 0.892 save percentage, but he recently posted a five-game winning streak (Dec. 11-27) and is 5-2 with a 2.12 GAA and a 0.937 save percentage in his last seven appearances.

Pearce, a former Notre Dame standout, made his American Hockey League debut in Grand Rapids’ 2008-09 regular season finale at Peoria on April 11, 2009, stopping 33 shots in the team’s 5-2 loss. He will back up Daniel Larsson tonight when the Griffins visit the Rockford IceHogs at 8:05 p.m. EST.
