GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Sunday recalled defensemen Brian Lashoff and Brendan Smith from the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Lashoff, 22, is in his third professional season and shows 35 points (11-24—35) in 160 career games with Grand Rapids. The Albany, N.Y., native, who recorded a career-high 19 points (8-11—19) and 41 penalty minutes in 76 games with the Griffins in 2011-12, has six points (2-4—6) and six penalty minutes in 35 games with the team this season. The 6-foot-3, 216-pound defenseman was originally signed by Detroit as a free agent in September 2008.

Smith, 23, has recorded 86 points (27-59—86) in 152 contests with the Griffins from 2010-13, including 20 points (5-15—20) in 32 games this season, which is the best among the team’s defensemen. A native of Mimico, Ontario, Smith was drafted in the first round (27th overall) by Detroit in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut last season, notching seven points (1-6—7) in 14 games with the Red Wings.

The Griffins will be on the road this week, battling the Charlotte Checkers on Wednesday and Thursday at 7 p.m. before making their third visit in 11 days to Rockford to battle the division rival IceHogs at 8:05 p.m. EST on Saturday.
