Michal Postava Wins AHL Goaltender of the Month Award
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The American Hockey League on Tuesday announced that Grand Rapids Griffins goaltender Michal Postava has been selected as the AHL Goaltender of the Month for October. Postava went 4-0 last month with a 1.25 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage.
Postava allowed as many as two goals just once during the four-game October and, from Oct. 9-18, showed a 1.00 GAA and a .966 save percentage over three appearances. Postava was also named the Howies Hockey Tape/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 11 when he went 2-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .967 save percentage. In addition, the 24-year-old collected his first AHL regular-season assist on Oct. 11 against the Chicago Wolves.
Postava also made his NHL debut with the Detroit Red Wings in October, doing so in a relief effort on Oct. 22 at the Vancouver Canucks. He then registered his first NHL win during his first start on Oct. 26 at the Edmonton Oilers (4-3 SOW, 25 saves).
This marks the Griffins’ third goaltender of the month award in the past year, including Sebastian Cossa’s honors for both November and December 2025.
Throughout five AHL games this season, Postava has a 5-0 record with a 1.20 GAA and a .955 save percentage. In the AHL rankings, the fifth-year pro stands first in save percentage, second in GAA and tied for first in wins.
Postava has not allowed more than three goals in any of his 30 regular-season games in the AHL. As a rookie last year with Grand Rapids, Postava logged a 17-6-0 record during the regular season to go along with four shutouts, a 1.71 GAA and a .937 SV% in 25 outings. Along with teammate Cossa, the duo won the 2025-26 Harry "Hap" Holmes Memorial Award with a league-low 159 combined goals allowed. In the franchise’s all-time single-season record book, Postava’s 2025-26 season ranked first in GAA, first in save percentage and tied for 10th in shutouts. He was also named the team’s starter for the 2026 Calder Cup Playoffs and went 4-4 with one shutout, a 2.09 GAA and a .912 SV% in eight appearances.
