GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday reassigned goaltender Thomas McCollum to the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye from the Grand Rapids Griffins, who subsequently signed goalie Jimmy Spratt to a professional tryout.

McCollum, 21, shows a 6-11-2 record with one shutout, a 3.18 GAA and a 0.881 save percentage in 20 games with Grand Rapids this season. The second-year pro earned his first NHL call-up on Jan. 15 and served as the backup to Joey MacDonald during Detroit’s 6-5 overtime win against Columbus that night. A native of Amherst, New York, McCollum has also appeared in five games with Toledo this season, posting a 3-1-0 record with a 2.55 GAA and a 0.913 save percentage.

Spratt, 25, owns a 6-2-0 mark with a 3.14 GAA and a 0.901 save percentage in nine outings with Toledo, after going 1-2-0 with a 5.19 GAA and a 0.826 save percentage in five games with the Central Hockey League’s Rapid City Rush earlier this season. A native of Chesterfield, Mich., Spratt logged four years at Bowling Green State University from 2005-09. He is expected to back up Jordan Pearce on Friday when the Griffins host the Lake Erie Monsters at 7 p.m.
