McCOLLUM RETURNS TO GRIFFINS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Thursday assigned goaltender Thomas McCollum to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
McCollum, 21, made his Red Wings debut last night in Detroit’s 10-3 loss to St. Louis, stopping five of eight shots in relief of Joey MacDonald to become the Griffins’ 117th NHL alumnus.
In 20 games with the Griffins this season, McCollum shows a 6-11-2 record with one shutout, a 3.18 GAA and a 0.881 save percentage. The Amherst, N.Y., native has also appeared in 23 games with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye, posting an 11-10-1 record with a 2.76 GAA and a 0.909 save percentage while tying for third on the circuit with three shutouts.
McCollum is expected to back up Jordan Pearce on Friday when the Griffins visit Abbotsford for a 10 p.m. EDT clash with the Heat.
