GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday assigned defenseman Alexey Marchenko to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

A native of Moscow, Russia, Marchenko owns 17 points (2-15—17), 22 penalty minutes and a plus-15 rating in 42 games with the Griffins this season and ties for fourth among team blueliners in scoring. In all, the 6-foot-2, 212-pound defenseman has accumulated 35 points (5-30—35) and 36 PIM in 91 career games with Grand Rapids from 2013-15, in addition to representing the Griffins at the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic.

Since being recalled by Detroit on Jan. 30, Marchenko has appeared in 12 games with the Wings, earning his first NHL career point (assist) on Feb. 21 at Dallas and his first NHL goal on Feb. 28 at Nashville. The 23-year-old made his NHL debut last season on Jan. 4, 2014, when he became the 140th Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL.

The Griffins will look to extend their franchise-record 18-game point streak during a weekend three-in-three, kicked off with a game against the Milwaukee Admirals at Van Andel Arena on Friday at 7 p.m.
