MACDONALD RETURNS
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday assigned goaltender Joey MacDonald to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
MacDonald, 31, ranks first among the Griffins’ all-time goaltending leaders with 189 games played, 10675:01 minutes, 101 wins, 18 shutouts and 4,852 saves, overtaking former teammate Jimmy Howard in games played, minutes and saves last week. The Pictou, Nova Scotia, native also places among the AHL’s early-season goaltending leaders with a 1.98 GAA (11th), a 0.935 save percentage (10th), three wins (T3rd), one shutout (T1st) and a 0.889 shootout percentage (5th) in five appearances.
MacDonald served as the backup in Detroit’s 4-1 loss to Columbus on Tuesday. He rejoins the Griffins as they prepare for their second home game of the season this Friday at 7 p.m. versus Abbotsford. Tickets are still available at griffinshockey.com.
