LARKIN SIGNED TO ATO
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Griffins on Thursday signed center Dylan Larkin to an amateur tryout.
Detroit’s first choice (15th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Larkin signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Wings earlier this afternoon. The Waterford, Mich., native, most recently secured a bronze medal with the United States in the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championship, tallying one assist and six penalty minutes in 10 games. Larkin also participated in the IIHF World Junior Championship earlier this season, where he tied for the tournament lead in goals (5) and led Team USA in points (5-2—7) through five games.
The 6-foot-1, 193-pound center spent the duration of his 2014-15 regular season with the University of Michigan Wolverines, picking up 47 points (15-32—47), 38 PIM and a plus-18 rating in 35 games as a freshman. Larkin ranked 11th in the nation in scoring and was second among freshmen, behind Boston University’s Jack Eichel, earning national recognition as a Second Team All-American and within the conference as Big Ten Freshman of the Year, First Team All-Big Ten and All-Big Ten Rookie Team.
Prior to his time at Michigan, Larkin spent two seasons with the U.S. National Development Team in Ann Arbor and ranked second on the Under-18 team with 31 goals and 56 points (31-25—56) in 60 games during the 2013-14 season. The 18-year-old forward also served as an alternate captain for the gold medal-winning United States squad at the 2014 Under-18 World Championship, notching two goals and two assists in six games.
The Griffins will kick off their Western Conference Finals series against the Utica Comets with Games 1 and 2 this Sunday and Monday at Utica Memorial Auditorium at 7 p.m., before returning to Van Andel Arena for as many as three home games.
Tickets for Games 3 (Thu., May 28) and 4 (Fri., May 29) at Van Andel Arena are now on sale at The Zone and all Star Tickets locations, online through griffinshockey.com/buytickets, by phone through Star Tickets at (800) 585-3737, or via the Griffins app for iPhone or Android.
