KRONWALL ADVANCES; DEMITRA AND VAUCLAIR DENIED
INNSBRUCK, Austria - Niklas Kronwall's first-period goal and second-period assist powered Sweden to a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Julien Vauclair's Switzerland squad in the quarterfinals of the 2005 IIHF World Championship on Thursday.
Kronwall, a member of Sweden's 2003 silver medal team, has registered three goals and three assists in seven tournament games. Sweden advances to take on the Czech Republic in Saturday's semifinal in Vienna.
In other action, two goals by former Griffin Pavol Demitra were not enough to overcome defending champion Canada, which beat Slovakia by a 5-4 margin. Canada will face Russia in Saturday's other semifinal.
